Late next year Earth Island is going to be publishing a book based on the Mass Movement feature, It Ruined My Life, called strangely enough, It Ruined My Life and we’re looking for people rooted in alternative cultures and scenes who’d be interested in being featured in the book.
Tim Cundle, Mass Movement’s editor will be compiling it, and the premise for the book is simple – it’s a collection of personal stories about the pivotal moments that forever altered and changed an individual’s ideas about, perception of, and the direction that they took in life.
In short, it’s about the moments, encounters, and experiences that “ruined” (or transformed, depending on your point of view) people’s lives. At the moment, we’re aiming to collect 366 stories from people from all corners of alternative and fringe culture, and hoping that anyone reading this, particularly if an author, or involved in a band, or any similar alternative or creative venture, might like to be part of this and be featured in the book
So what does it involve? It’s a single-question interview, and that question goes a little something like this:
“What’s the one thing or moment that changed your life completely, how did it affect you and change your life?”
The answer should be a story, as everyone has a story to tell, and said story can be submitted as either an email, Word Doc, PDF, a sound file (MP3 or WAV) or by arranging a Zoom interview that will be recorded and then transcribed.
We’ll also require a short biography and a print-quality Jpeg / Tiff, both of which will run with your story.
That’s about it. We hope to hear from you soon if you want to be involved.
