This time it’s from the blogsite STREETVOICE UK. Here’s a few quotes:
“This book is brilliant…”
“What a superb read!”
“If you haven’t got this book then I highly recommend you do as it’s one of the best stories told by the longest running front man in punk!”

Rod Orchard has also written an excellent review of Charlie Harper’s ‘An Anarchy of Demons’ autobiography which will appear in ‘In Effect’ zine, ‘Outsider’ Magazine and possibly ‘Metal Addicts’, concluding that it’s “essential punk reading”…
Read the full review below:
Charlie Harper—best known as the indestructible frontman of UK Subs—has lived a life that most punks could only dream (or barely survive). In An Anarchy of Demons, Harper trades stage dives and tour vans for the written word, delivering a memoir that’s raw, restless, and full of bite.
This isn’t a polished rock-star vanity project—it’s a scrapbook of scars, stories, and survival. Harper digs deep into the chaos of his upbringing, the madness of the early punk explosion, and the demons that followed him through decades on the road. His writing is conversational, almost like you’re sharing a pint with him after a gig. There’s grit in every sentence, but also surprising vulnerability, especially when he reflects on addiction, loss, and the grind of trying to keep a band alive in a music industry that never gave punk much credit.
What makes An Anarchy of Demons so compelling is Harper’s refusal to mythologize himself. He doesn’t posture as a hero or victim—he’s brutally honest about his flaws, mistakes, and the price of living on his own terms. That honesty makes the book hit harder than any sanitized music biography.
Steve Dann’s cover art is eye-catching, pulling you in before you even crack the spine—a perfect match for the intensity inside.
For long-time Subs fans, this is essential reading. For anyone curious about the punk ethos beyond the slogans and safety pins, it’s a crash course in resilience, defiance, and the messy humanity at the heart of the scene.
Verdict: Essential punk reading. - Rod Orchard
