Extreminal review Tear It Down

Tear It Down: How Crossover Bridged Metal and Hardcore Punk by Alex Anesiadis

(Book Review)

This is an incredible book about the whole crossover scene that took place in the late 80’s.

The book is over 600 pages and doesn’t just cover the big name bands like Agnostic Front, The Cromags, The Crumbsuckers, Sick of it All, Black Flag, Ludichrist, Gang Green, Dr. Know, D.R.I, SOD, MOD, etc. There is some thrash bands like Hirax, Whiplash, Slaughter, Nuclear Assault, etc. But this guy finds and interviews demo bands like Lethal Aggression (who rule), Deadspot, Hogans Heroes, etc.

There is literally 100’s of band interviews and some I had never heard of. It’s crazy how he managed to track these bands down.

The crossover scene was an incredible scene and I saw many shows back then and yes I did go in the mosh pits back then.

One crazy show was Venom/Black Flag/and Overkill all on the same bill at City Gardens, in Trenton, NJ. This book brought back a ton of memories and is written so damn well it’s not funny.

It easily gets a 10 out of 10 from me and is absolutely a must read.

Review by Chris Forbes for Extreminal.
