“Hey Bats and Ghouls! Looking for some gothic, post punk fun Saturday night? One of my very favourite people @killjozapata has organized a batacular show for those of us who lean to the dark side. @nme9band along with @pinsandneedlesig and @houndz1313 will be playing some incredible music you will feel in the deepest crevices of your darkened soul. I’ll be there as well slinging a few books and enjoying the night. This event is all ages so tell your teens they can come too! Doors at 7:30, bands start at 8 and free admission till 9. After 9 the cover is just $10. There will even be after hours dancing! Backstage Live, 18205 S. Broadway in Gardena.”
Pick up a copy of ‘My Punk Rock Life - The Photography of Marla Watson’ (Hardcover edition) from Earth island Books store now.
Marla’s book emphasises the fans point of view. Reaching out to both friends and strangers to write short pieces about what it felt like to be a punk back then, including personal stories and experiences. The feedback so far has been massively positive from the likes of Ian Mackaye, Jello Biafra, Keith Morris, Mike Burkett, Jeff Nelson and others, many of whom are featured in the book.
“A crucial document on the early days of US hardcore!”
“A great archive of that time period. The bands, the people, the venues... everything is so well documented.”
“Marla paints an excellent picture of the SoCal punk scene during the 80s with her photography and anecdotes.”
