A great new review of ‘GUITARGONAUT’ by Sluggo Cawley is out today, written by Kathleen Riot for Street Voice UK.
“I first came across Sluggo Cawley on My Space around 23 years ago when I was interested in his then current band The Grannies. Since then we’ve become good friends and a man who I love to bits as he’s one of life’s great characters.
This is a big ass book to read – Over 420 pages filled with some amazing tales of being in a band. There’s also some sad moments too where his son Blixa was diagnosed with leukemia. Luckily Blixa is now recovered from that ordeal but such a scary moment. There’s the story of Kurt Cobain’s guitar which Sluggo sold and then was later re-sold for a huge ass amount of money!
Band wise every thing is talked about including Sluggo’s first proper gig in 1981 right through to the present day! Sluggo’s bands include The Ignorance, The Pointless Army, Hullabaloo, The Grannies and Req’d.
There’s some mad and fun stories regards the bands Sluggo was in and his partner Laurian must have had the patience of saint to still be around, haha! There’s so much to read and once you bury your head in this book you wont want to put it down!
Fantastic read and one of the best books I’ve picked up in regards being in a Rock n Roll band!
A big shout out to JJ Gonson for the sleeve photos. Great photography from one of my favourite photographers out there! This book is a must! 10/10”
