In this collection of almost two hundred poems that stick the knife in - but the knife tickles and makes you laugh, Sam captures the modern world in the most vivid colours.
Poking and prodding at the minutiae of daily life with a chewed brush and painting with words that highlight their more curious aspects, these are pictures you won’t soon forget.
In the first few dozen pages, our man has covered litter, unboxing videos, spousal abuse, body art, the environment, the rat race, pornography, the digital world and more. It’s a swerving, swooping, doing‐a‐wheelie‐on‐a‐Raleigh‐chopper ride through the world of Sam Marsh’s mind and the stabilisers are off! Sam Marsh doesn’t go with the flow. He is his own flow. His work is a secret treat for the initiated and a sparkling future discovery for those with the will to dig for such prizes. It’s not for everyone; but what is that’s really worth the effort? He’s a punk, a musician, a poet and a Buddhist and sees no conflict in this whatsoever.
About the author:
As a child Sam was obsessed with music and drumming. As a teenager he wanted to be a famous rock musician. He pursued that for a while, with some success in a band called ‘Jacob’s Mouse’ but decided to do something less selfish with his life and became a mental health worker, which he did for the next twenty years or so. Then Sam met a bloke who had lived in a Buddhist monastery and they discussed the deep stuff, like ‘what is life all about?’ Sam started meditating and investigating Eastern spiritual traditions, and soon he started writing.
Sam’s first book was the enlightening ‘Wisdom of the Punk Buddha’ and his new book, ‘A Poke in the Third Eye’, follows on from that in the same superbly heartfelt and honest style.
Sam lives in Suffolk with his wife Rachel and their troublesome cats, where this good-hearted bookworm of a punk-rocker tries to remain calm and thoughtful.
