ACADEMIA IN THE U.K... SUBS!
The academic journal 'Punk & Post-Punk' (Intellect publishing) recently published a fantastic review of Charlie Harper's autobiography 'An Anarchy of Demons' in their Volume 15 Number 1 issue.
Renowned punk scholar and editor of 'Punk & Post-Punk', Dr Russ Bestley, concluded in his insightful 3 page review that "the personality of the author shines through – anyone who has met Harper and chatted with him at a gig (or more likely at the bar) will be familiar with those traits. In many ways, it is that down-to-earth generosity and accessibility that characterises Harper’s long journey from punk everyman to elder statesman of a global subculture..."
Bestley also writes that the U.K. Subs were "instrumental... in the development of a second wave of punk..." and that the book "is a very personal, reflective memoir of a life lived in the swirling undercurrents of rock ’n’ roll..." citing the key influences from Charlie's early life which "helps readers understand the motivations and personal outlook that drove the young drifter towards a life of rock ’n’ roll."
